Just came back from my first trip to Mexico City and I can't wait to return again - not enough time to explore this giant cultural hub (& business gateway to Latin America). Of course, staying at the beautiful Four Seasons helps make any stay magical, but so does great people & friends, art galleries and FOOD (be sure to check out restaurants Dulce Patria and Pujol.)Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2230321260874680424.post-62052250659651270532015-01-11T15:15:00.000-08:002015-01-11T15:19:55.297-08:00The Stylish Traveller: San Francisco

Who doesn't love San Francisco? Beautiful, cultural and buzzing with the energy of the many new residents flocking to the City for new startups, I like to drop in for a couple of days every so often for a dose of it (which is why I took a spontaneous trip Jan 1!). You can read the NY Times "36 hours in San Francisco" or just walk the City and enjoy the beautiful homes, the hills, the views, the restaurants, the parks, the art galleries, the markets....Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2230321260874680424.post-40686889863991384472015-01-08T08:39:00.002-08:002015-01-08T08:39:22.533-08:00A Belated Happy Holidays & Happy New Year!Better late than never! I had decide to unplug the last few weeks (highly recommend) and take the opportunity to spend (real) time with friends & family in L.A., Palm Springs & San Francisco. So here it is: Hoping 2015 holds more love, compassion, creativity and discovery for the world, wishing everyone health & happiness. Ireland: Possibly the best place I have ever spent Thanksgiving, and somewhere I should have visited long, long ago. By far some of the happiest, kindest people I have ever met on my journey's, and a social bunch at that. I suggest flying into the west coast, like Shannon Airport, and taking a few magnificent days at Adare Manor - a hotel (pictured above) made famous throughout the Country. From there you can drive all around the coast, and see the many towns and wonders (like the Cliffs of Moher) and have a well-rounded experience. After which, you can hop the train or bus to Dublin and spend a couple of days (Trinity College old library and the Guinness Factory are highly recommended stops, as is Fade Street Social and Green Hen for dinner).
- Adare Manor: Huge rooms, sweeping grounds, golf course, falconry-archery-horses. This is fantasy stuff, and it was an incredible place to stay.
- Dublin: Stayed at the Merrion and Four Seasons, but the former is very centrally located. This is a walking City, and there are many good hotels to choose from, pubs every where you look and a booming food scene. Pack your bags!
Who doesn't love the fabulous City of London? Every time I go back it is familiar to me, and I fall in love with its sophistication and culture all over again. This time around was for business, and I had plenty of visits to fellow hotels along the way:
- Four Seasons Park Lane and Canary wharf (to stay)
- The Savoy (for sublime cocktails)
- Claridges (for high tea)
Holiday Travel: Are you prepared? I am off to London & Ireland this week, and for Americans celebrating Thanksgiving next week, I can't recommend overseas travel enough! The tickets to fly OUT of the country are often less than those flying around IN the country (*the busiest travel day of the year in the USA). Think about taking advantage of great deals abroad for 2016, and for those travelling domestically this week, I would suggest 1) Travel light, 2) Travel off-peak days/hours & 3) secure flight seating online as early as possible. Bonne Chance! At the recent launch party in NY (hence the photobooth image here), the property stops and Dom Perignon partnership were revealed. Nw York City. My beloved adopted hometown, and a City I never tire of. This time of year - November/December - the leaves have changed (the snow comes later) and the City builds energy towards the Holiday. The bars & restaurants are packed as people cozy up in side, the stores start decorating and the giant tree is brought to 30 Rockefeller (The tree twitter handle is hilarious btw). I hit the ground running, went straight to the annual New Yorker Magazine passport party and saw "Kinky Boots" on Broadway, which was an excellent start. This was too quick of a trip this round, but my other must-do's if you only have a short time:
- Walk Central Park
- Walk Nolita/Soho and/or westside by the water (If you have time, Williamsburg, BK)
- Eat, eat, eat. This round included faves Rubirosa, Balthazar, Blue Ribbon
- Broadway show
- Stop at one museum: Metropolitan, MOMA, Guggenheim
I finally found Fall, my favorite season, on my recent trip home to Vancouver, Canada for 'Canadian Thanksgiving (something I rarely get to partake in having lived in the USA for the last 15 years). Long considered one of the most beautiful North American City's, it never disappoints (above is a photo of my alma mater, The University of British Columbia). Just a few hours North of Seattle, the mountains & ocean combination is astounding, and tourism is booming. A few of my favorite things to do:
1. Walk or bike the seawall - either downtown or kitslano. Or the beaches anywhere!
2. See Stanley Park, maybe pop by the aquarium there too.
3. Food: Lots of top restaurants & chefs set up shop here, and you will have some of the freshest fish & sushi choices to be found anywhere.
4. Hike near (Grouse Mountain) or far (The Chief, Whistler)
5. Some unique boutiques in Gastown & Yaletown, popular stores to be found on Robson St.
6. Take a water taxi from Downtown to Granville island to see artists studios & hit the food market
7. IF you have time: Consider taking a long trip to wither Whistler (skiing/hiking), Victoria (Capital, ferry or seaplane trip away), or in the summer The Okanagan (Western Canada's wine county.)
I decided to wrap up my 'Southern Belle' summer with a trip to Austin, Texas for Labor Day weekend, and did it ever live up to my expectations! The laid back nature of the people, the food, the music scene, and the general functionality of a big tech City (SXSW festival, anyone?) with a small town feel (in all the right ways). If you have not been, get here - plenty of flights from around the US, and just a hop away from New Orleans if you wish to visit back-to-back. I will return, Austin!

Do: Kayak or paddle board on the river, Shop South Congress (especially UAL & Feathers), happy hour drinks on Rainey Street, watch some live music.

Eat: Food trucks! Tex Mex & BBQ! The trucks are everywhere, Nomad Dosa, Gourdoughs donuts, and Torchy's Tacos (on S. 1st) is a good one. Uchi for sushi, Sway for Thai, Pearla's for seafood, and if you can handle a 4+ hour wait, Franklin BBQ.

Stay: Downtown in general, though I see some cute hotels on South Congress too. Four Seasons Austin in particular - I may be biased but it's right on the river, and walking distance to everything, and of course has impeccable service, and has recently updated their rooms.

After a quick train ride, I arrived to beautiful Charleston, South Carolina. It's like the elegant, older sister to Savannah and offers unlimited things to do (from the City to the plantations to the beaches) and an incredible dining scene. Add in its own impressive history (Founded in 1670 as Charles Towne) and a City rule to restore all historic buildings, you have a gorgeous place to explore. And did I mention it's only a short plane ride from NYC? It's no wonder Travel + Leisure named Charleston #1 on its top North American City list.

Watch: The Patriot, Cold Mountain and the Notebook

Do: Same as Savannah, get acquainted with the town and history with a quick horse-driven carriage tour. There are a bunch of them available from the City Market.

See: City Market, Shop along King Street, Charleston Museum, Waterfront park, and just stroll around downtown Charleston to see all the unbelievable historic homes south of Broad street. Drive down towards Kiawah island where there are some tea plantations (and Boone plantation), and a very old huge oak tree (Angel Oak).
Kiawah island is a private island but there is a public beach at one of
the ends. (Kiawah Beachwalker Park). Or drive down towards Sullivan Island,
you will cross the bridge and end up at the beach (Isle of palms beach
is adjacent to it)

Eat: The grocery, Fig, Leon's, Circa 1886, The Ordinary, Husk, Martha Lou's kitchen. Also, Bull Street Cafe (on king) and fabulous sandwiches, and even dinner. And grab a piece of famous coconut cake from Peninsula grill!

Stay: I stayed at the historic Mills House (Wyndham Grand Hotel) which is both lovely and centrally located. I could literally walk everywhere from there, from the City market to the water front.

While I grew up taking road trips all over North America, the South (being the complete opposite location to where I lived) was never on the list. After meeting some incredible Southerners over the years, and watching one too many movies set on various locations in the area, I thought it was time, and Savannah, Georgia was high on my list. Savannah has a slow & easy style, friendliness and
charm. From the houses to the history (est. 1773 A LOT happened here, from early colonization to the civil war to civil rights) to the approved open cocktail
'roadie' policy, I thoroughly enjoying my first trip here. It's exactly the right balance of laid back/friendly/pretty backdrop I was looking for, and arriving on the 4th of July, among fireworks over the river and a glass of wine in my hand was too perfect!

WATCH: Movies to see while you are pack, set in Savannah: "Midnight in the Garden of good & evil", "Forrest Gump" (sorry, famous park bench is now gone), "Legend of Bagger Vance"...and what the hell, "Gone with the wind", just because it's the South, people.

DO: Get an overview of the city first with a hop on-and-off Old Savannah history tour, and maybe a night walk ghost tour (I did both, apparently this City is extremely haunted. I personally keep smelling the same perfume scent everywhere, not sure what that means). Everything is close anyway, so you can walk (or bike) everywhere!

STAY: I chose the new Kimpton hotel - The Brice - conveniently located, in walking distance to everything in historic Savannah and across the street from the River walk. Large rooms (this is my living room in the above photo), fun/hip interior design, very pet friendly, outdoor garden to sit with a cocktail, and has a great Italian restaurant (Pacci) too. I strongly recommend it!

Growing up in a family that was big on road trips, every summer I still get the itch to jump in a car and explore new cities and unchartered road. Living in NY and LA, having family in Colorado and the Pacific North West, I have a new found obsession with visiting the southern USA - unknown territory for me, beyond connecting flights. So this summer I will explore Austin, New Orleans, Charleston and Savannah. I look forward to new adventures, and am open to any tips you may have. (Also, the NY Times "36 hours in" is a great travel gem!). It makes me proud to say I know so many "Girl Bosses" out there, making their own way. Sophia Amoruso's new book #GirlBoss read like a familiar diary of my past projects and the hard work, but ultimate reward, of seeing your vision through. I know many of you will feel the same and it's a nice reminder to stick to your independent goals. I look forward to seeing all your business ideas grow and my own, Stylegroove Communications, as it continues to evolve. So work hard, stay humble and forward march! xUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2230321260874680424.post-28209371611821509392014-05-05T15:43:00.001-07:002014-07-03T11:20:54.867-07:00Travel & Galas
