While I have lived in many global City's over the yeas, I never forget where I came from: Alberta, Canada and Colorado, USA. The sheer beauty of these places stays with me always. Allow me to share why:

Antiquing
One of my favorite things to do on my occasional weekend trips to local NY small towns, is visit the local antique shops. I have always been fascinated by vintage items, and the stories and histories surrounding them. Every time I walk into a home that looks entirely styled by pottery barn, or void of personal touches, I shudder. Why would you want more of the same, but you can add some conversation starters to your decor, or collect little treasures that really mean something to you? Because the jig is up...Ikea is not doing it for you. Today's genius finds include a fortune slot machine (still works), a Canada Post box (found in Atlanta?) and a waffle maker (with hearts!) from the 1850's.

Publishing Dreams
I must admit, I feel very lucky when my work week includes stops into these two offices. When I had my first internship at Seventeen Magazine all of those years ago (more than I care to count), who would have thought it would lead this gal from Canada, here?

Facebook Timeline
How many years have you been using Facebook? Compared with the recent 6 years anniversary of Twitter, Facebook is ancient. Or is it? consider that now your parents, grandparents, and for some - pets (why?), have joined the network. Do you remember it not being part of your everyday life? (And yes, I know, we all have friends that like to remind us, in a superior tone, that THEY have never joined and will not. Fine, then. Boo.) But with ALL facebook pages changing over to the new timeline on March 30th, it may scare you to see just how long you have been on the platform. Damn you, Zuckerberg!

Mad Men Season 5
They're back! Season 5 of Mad Men is upon us...525 days since the Season 4 finale, and those cliffhangers have become too much to bare. The clothes, the booze, the business, the affairs...it's been the buzz all week, which lead to this wonderful Newsweek issue entirely dedicated to a vintage aesthetic. Get those martinis ready for some viewing pleasure!

Brahmin in Brooklyn
I had the pleasure of producing a photo shoot for Brahmin Handbags this past week (along with the ever-so-stylish Rebekka Shuman), which took place in scenic Dumbo, Brooklyn. With Manhattan's epic skyline as our backdrop, our featured subjects were none other than fellow fashion bloggers Taylor Sterling ("Sterling Style"), Kendi Lea ("Kendi Everyday") and Kim Pesch ("Eat Sleep Wear"). We can't wait for you all to see the summer 2012 look book! See some exclusive behind the scenes instagram photos here, and see a sneak peak of Taylor having her Mary-Tyler-Moore-moment above.
M.I.A. Drifting in the Desert
I freely admit I love cars. I love driving them, I love looking at them, I am even interested in their mechanics. But alas, I mainly live in NYC and rarely get to drive anymore, unless I am out in the country or back in Vancouver. Therefore, it is safe to say I have been OBSESSED with M.I.A.'s video for 'Bad Girls', featuring the Saudi drifting scene. Watch it, and the fascinating behind-the-scenes now.

Ab Fab for Alexis Bittar
How was I so late to this? It was a pleasant surprise today, to look up and see a new billboard for Alexis Bittar featuring Edina & Patsy from the BBC TV sensation, Absolutely Fabulous. Amazing!

Happy St. Patrick's Day (& weekend) to my fellow Irish. Every year, Guinness comes out with an enormously entertaining new video for the occasion. This year was no exception. Sláinte!

Iris Apfel for MAC
The absolutely fabulous 90-year-old Iris Apfel, long a fashion icon here in NYC, was named a spokesperson for MAC cosmetics (a brilliant idea). As someone routinely featured on the Advanced Style blog, Iris is the perfect choice. In fact, the Today show featured her in a segment just this morning, and the need to move away from our societies obsession with youth. (A silly notion. We all get better with age!)

International Women's Day
Yes, I am a day late. But International Women's Day is no less important. And considering the insane efforts of certain individuals raging against a women's right to choose and access to birth control, it is most timely that we rally together and stand up for ourselves. I especially loved Ann Friedman's take on this story through GIF's. Hear me roar! Enjoy!
