Academy Awards

Today, the Oscar's are upon us! The glitz, the glamour, the way-too-long-broadcast! But boy, do I love it. Get your champagne and Oscar ballots ready: www.Oscar.go.com

The War of Art

"Are you a born writer? Were you put on the earth to be a painter, a scientist, an apostle of peace? In the end the question can only be answered by action. Do it or don't do it." ~ Steven Pressfield (From "The War of Art")

Welcoming 30+

“35 is a very attractive age. London society is full of women of the very highest birth who have, of their own free choice, remained thirty-five for years.” ~ Oscar Wilde
Tomorrow (February 20th) I embrace 35, without quite knowing how I got here. I am not a "age-ist". I have friends who are 25 and 65. As long as you are a good person, your age means nothing to me. But I still feel a bit shocked by those numbers coming out of my mouth. Certainly we learn and grow, but we all retain part of that teenager in us forever. Don't let your age box define you. Break the rules. I do! Link to my previous articles about being in your thirties:  “Age is in the Attitude: Welcome to your Thirties” and “The Art of Falling Apart”.

SNL on Birth Control

Leave it to SNL to hit the nail on the head with their witty commentary. This attack on birth control here in the US is beyond stupid. Women should have access to preventative care, even if they chose not to take advantage of it. I mean, really!? Write to your congressman/woman today.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! This day means a lot of different things to people, but I think it largely gets crushed by crazy expectations, and inevitable disappointment (whether you are single or not). Instead, I choose to see it as a day to share my appreciation for all of my friends and fantastic people in my life. As Pablo Neurda said: “To feel the love of people whom we love is a fire that feeds our life.” Live and love well. xo (And if you need a fun pick-me-up, check out Stereomood's Valentine's Day Playlist.)

RIP Whitney Houston

Another loss for the music world today as it has been confirmed that Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48. Her voice was inescapable in my childhood. An amazing talent and a tragic soul. It should make for an interesting night Sunday, at the Grammy's.

Madonna-mania

Love her, hate her, Madonna can still do her thing, as she pulled off a tremendous halftime show. Did anyone else go down a workout shame spiral after seeing how amazing she looks at 50? MIA and Nicki Minaj could learn a thing or two. See her just released concert dates here.

Remarkable Women

Superbowl, what? I was preoccupied with this fantastic special on 60 Minutes, "Three Remarkable Women" on Dolly Parton, Meryl Streep and Anna Wintour. Watch it now.
