Sotheby’s says it is auctioning about 3 million pounds worth of jewelry once owned by Wallis Simpson, the American socialite who became Duchess of Windsor. Britain’s King Edward VIII, who renounced his claim to the British throne in 1936 to marry the divorcee, showered her with gifts of jewellery throughout their courtship and marriage. The pieces on sale include a Cartier heart-shaped emerald, ruby and diamond brooch commissioned in 1957 to mark their 20th wedding anniversary. A Cartier onyx and diamond panther bracelet (in photo) and a flamingo clip encrusted with multicolored jewels will also go under the hammer. The 20 lots are only a fraction of the original “Jewels of the Duchess of Windsor” collection, which was sold soon after Simpson’s death in 1986.

Fashion: Interview + Cotillard

Interview Magazine's August cover of Marion Cotillard hit the web yesterday, and while there’s no doubting it’s a beautiful image (it’s pretty difficult to make Marion Cotillard look bad), it seems Interview’s past three covers, Megan Fox, Madonna, and Carey Mulligan all follow this basic composition: female close ups in white, black, or red. Time to switch it up!

Art: Happy Birthday Frida Kahlo

In case you were confused by today's Google tribute, it is artist Frida Kahlo's birthday, born in Mexico on 6 July 1907. Kahlo was one of the most fascinating portraitists of the 20th century. Her subject was herself, but her character, adventures, sufferings and talent made her more than worthy of her own scrutiny. Still a tremendous source of inspiration, Kahlo is a painter whose rainforest palette, bold lines, and unblinking gaze exert a formidable, rare power and her anniversary is well worth celebrating! (If you would like to learn more, read her fascinating biography or 2002's incredible movie "Frida" starring Salma Hayek.

Wonder Woman now sports a blue leather jacket – which will ease the anxiety of many fans who always wondered where she carried everything.“What woman only wears one outfit for 70 years? What woman doesn’t accessorize?” asks the DC Universe blog, The Source. “And more to the point, as many women have lamented over the years…how does she fight in that thing?”
